Having suffered with anxiety from a very young age with no healthy outlet I began to believe that suppressing my emotions would allow me to live a societal acceptable 'normal' life.
I pursued a career in pharmacy, got married and became mother to my two beautiful children. However as a Clinical Pharmacist and mother of two I felt lost in every sense. It took the silence of the COVID-19 pandemic lock down to make me realise that something needed to change.
Finally making a change and prioritising myself in adopting healthy practices of mindfulness I realised that there were healthier practices to manage my anxiety and improve my mental health and wellbeing. All of which I wanted to showcase to my children in order to give them a better chance of navigating life's highs and lows.
Currently 'a young person is referred to the NHS for mental health support every 30 seconds. 1 in 6 children are identified as having mental health concerns.' NHS services have become saturated, with thousands of young people stuck on waiting lists struggling to cope & hitting crisis point before they can get the help they need.
Through my own lived experiences and my work within General Practice I fear that this will progressively get worse if we do not make a change.
This harsh reality is the reason why I feel so passionately about making a change, making a change for our younger, future generation in hope that they feel free, safe and confident to speak about their feelings & emotions. But also that they grow to become confident and resilient adults for the future.
My experience within the NHS as well as my own lived experiences have helped me to develop a very special children's mindfulness diary. This diary not only to helps support parents to showcase positive practices to their children but also provides opportunity to adopt these practices as adults.
My diary is so much more than just a diary, my diary holds hope that our children, the younger generation will feel more emotionally and mentally equipped to handle the highs and lows of life. But also that parents themselves will learn to adopt practices which improve their mental health and wellbeing. All in all supporting the family as a whole.
Proceeds from the sale of each diary will go to children's mental health charities such a young mind to support the current crisis.
